Do you realize how much trash you produce in just a day, or a week? The answer is a lot, 4 lbs worth in fact. It’s not something we really think about to often, which is why this was such a genius idea. Photographer Gregg Segal told people to save their trash for one week for his new project, something most people would look at you crazy eyed for asking. This new photo-series by Segal dubbed “7 days of garbage”, is brilliant – it highlights a problem and it’s just plain good art. When asked about the project, Segal said:
“Of course, there were some people who edited their stuff. I said, ‘Is this really it?’ I think they didn’t want to include really foul stuff so it was just packaging stuff without the foul garbage. Other people didn’t edit and there were some nasty things that made for a stronger image.
It’s not necessarily their fault. We’re just cogs in a machine and you’re not culpable really but at the same time you are because you’re not doing anything, you’re not making any effort. There are some little steps you can take to lessen the amount of waste you produce.”
The series has been making it’s way around the inter-webs lately and we think it’s awesome, so we thought we would help pass it on even more! enjoy!
