
If you read our Little Dragon post, we mentioned how this past weekend was full of amazing shows! Well, the Bay Area wasn’t the only place to do something. Our West Coast editors James Pawlish and Lance Skundrich ventured down south to Monterey, CA for the second annual First City Festival presented by Golden Voice.
Going down to the Monterey Fair Grounds for this two-day mini festival by this sea is like taking a walk through time. This is the same place that once played host to the now infamous 1967 Monterey Pop Festival and saw legends The Who, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane and a then unknown Jimi Hendrix play.
There wasn’t much psychedelia this year, with the exception of the always fantastic Connan Mockasin, but there was plenty of indie rock, synthpop, and Folk. Artists included included Beck, Phantogram, The Liars, Future Islands, Best Coast, and The National Check out some of our favorite acts:
