OK, so you’re probably thinking to yourself, “WTF is this garbage (no pun intended) art that I’m looking at?” But this isn’t that pack of smokes you threw down on the street last night, nor is it the Crackerjacks box you tossed on the ground after that failed three-pointer; they’re insanely detailed paintings on carved pieces of base wood!
The artist behind all of this visual mayhem is Tom Pfannerstill. His artworks are made based on things he finds in the street, which he then carefully catalogs, noting the location and time of each. The modern day artifacts are then re-created to the finest detail. For him, each 3D painting represents a moment and place in his life — “something that’s strangely comforting in a world that is increasingly electronic and virtual.”
