With Halloween falling on a Friday, there’s an assumption that costume-clad individuals and alter egos will celebrate to excess on this haunted holiday weekend. What better way to document the weirdness than in the charming city of New Orleans, during the annual Voodoo Experience Music & Arts Festival!
This year’s lineup covers a range of genres, with headliners including Outkast, Pretty Lights, Slayer, Skrillex, Lauryn Hill and the Foo Fighters – and the Nakid crew will be in full force through the weekend. New Orleans-based Rebirth Brass Band, Big Freedia, Naughty Professor and Trombone Shorty are representing the home front with NOLA-infused funk and hip hop, with DJs Pete Tong, Claude VonStroke and Zedd appealing to the EDM crowd.
The art installations are not to be missed, with two interactive sculptures – “Face Forward” and “Fledgling” – that recently made an appearance this past weekend at Art Outside festival near Austin, Texas. Individuals are invited to climb into one of the structures, and use joystick-like controls to manipulate the facial expressions on the other. Like its host city, Voodoo promises lots of surprises and plenty of weirdness.
