“WE’RE A GROUP OF SIX ARTISTS BASED IN SHEFFIELD, UK. OUR WORK IS A 30 YEAR COLLABORATION, INSPIRING AUDIENCES ACROSS THE UK, EUROPE AND FURTHER AFIELD, REINVENTING THEATRE TO SPEAK ABOUT THE TIMES WE ARE LIVING IN.”
-Forced Entertainment
The art collective known as Forced Entertainment, started in 1984, looks to explore confronting contemporary life with their audience through conversation and negotiated debating. They have taken their performance style to heights never before thought of, and pushed the limits of what spoken word and theatre really means and can be in modern day life.
“…We’ve made lists, played games, spoken gibberish, stayed silent, made a mess, dressed up, stripped down, confessed to it all, performed magic tricks, told jokes, clowned around, played dead, got drunk, told stories and performed for six, twelve and even 24 hours at a stretch” – Forced Entertainment
Along with their performance art, the troupe of six has also created art installations, site-specific pieces, books, photographic collaborations, videos and even a self-reported “mischievous” guided bus tour. Not only is this 30 year adventure the genius of artistic collaboration between six unique and moving artists, but it serves as inspiration to those out their yet to realize their own potential or drive inside themselves, and it shows that a continued conversation, experimentation, and bold ideas are what drives the art community and the future of its ever growing inhabitants.
