THE SCREEN PRINT COMEBACK – IDLE BEATS {ARTIST TO WATCH}

Nakid Magazine, Idle Beats, digital art, mixed media

As the world moves towards digital art, interactive sculptures, or digitally manipulated media, there are some artists who are just keeping it old school. Idle Beats is a Shanghai-based printmaking studio that creates and sells original, colorful, cartoon-like prints – all with Chinese influence.

Established in 2009, the studio is run by two artists, who pride themselves on their illustrations (and so they should). Incorporating Chinese traditions such as the Chinese zodiac (生效) and using the vibrancy of Shanghai as their base, they make funky, soulful prints that reflect how Chinese culture has begun to mesh with Western influences

And they don’t stop there – the couple also makes t-shirts, fabric prints, and some pretty sick posters for gigs in Shanghai.
