Brian Solomon‘s “First Human” series powerfully conveys the relationship between our bodies and reality. It is based on Socrates’ Allegory of the Cave, a dialogue on human perception and enlightenment.
In the dialogue, humans are chained to a wall in a cave and only able to see shadows of objects outlined by a fire. Socrates urges philosophers to break their chains and exit the cave to see the objects for what they truly are, instead of shadows. From the agonies of grasping at shadows to enlightenment, Solomon’s series wonderfully embodies this struggle. See the full series below, and be sure to check out his other series.
