MANFACE – MATT MCCORMICK {ARTIST TO WATCH}

1403044319

Everyone calls him Manface because he had the face of a full grown man when in high school, but Matthew McCormick has come a long way from high school days, and through hell to get where he is now – one of the fastest growing tattoo and illustration artists in the Los Angeles area.  After years of traveling, and jumping around in Seattle, San Francisco, and New York; McCormick now lives in Los Angeles where he calls home and has his base of operations. Spending his days tattooing friends heads, banging out work to his “Dad Mix” on spotify which is full of gems from Sting to Neil Young, it seems ‘Face is right where he wants to be.

His studio is filled with Cholo-inspired ballpoint illustrations and recent tattoo sketches, paintings, and unfinished in-process work scattered about in a haze of disorganized beauty.  It is a rare and unique thing for an artist to have gone through so many artistic scenes growing up, yet still hold true to his own work and aesthetic – collecting experiences and inspiration from his travels and incorporating them into his own style.  McCormick struggled for a time, as some of us creatives do, but after a stint of deep drug addiction and alcoholism, he got his head back in the game with a new focus and determination, his art, the shining light that always holds true and only suffers when you let it suffer.  McCormick’s name recognition excells far beyond just the art/tattoo scene as well – his work is admired by numerous others, even Odd Future frontman, Tyler, The Creator, leapt at the chance to have McCormick ink him.  It’s clear his art and tattoos are something not only to be admired but coveted – we hope to one day get one of our Nakid family inked by him as well!
