You’re either a cat person or you’re not. When I heard about a new event in Los Angeles catering to feline lovers, I hugged my cats in glee. The Catnip Club, created by Franny Divine and Molly McIsaac, describes itself as a place of sensual, feline fun with an emphasis on feminine power. Boys are allowed, of course, as long as they play nicely. An added perk – a portion of the proceeds are donated to the Kitty Bungalow, a non-profit organization for rescuing feral cats.
As a costume party lover, the idea of dressing up in scandalous outfits and cat ears in the middle of March was a welcome departure from the formulaic Hollywood club-rat life. I had to check this out.
I gathered the girls, ordered some sushi, and after throwing on the whackiest outfits we could put together, we headed out to play.
We arrived to a hazy scene of disco and beautiful debauchery. Part Studio 54, part Helmut Newton’s wet dream, we were free to dance, drink, and purr. The atmosphere was sensually feline, with burlesque performances and only the best old-school jams. The icing on the cake – nobody annoyingly pawed at us as we danced. It was perfectly wild.
The Catnip Club will happen every other wednesday night at Golden Box in Hollywood. We’ll see you there. Meeeeow!
