TENNIS @ THE INDEPENDENT: SAN FRANCISCO 04.30.15

As I walked into the Independent in San Francisco, the usual smell of weed that lingers in the air was lacking. but the usual stale beer aroma still wafted throughout the crowd, who was genuinely excited to be there. For once, there wasn’t a bunch of shitty kids holding up their cell phones the whole time, tweeting about the show to all their social media friends. This was a show to actually watch! It seemed that some of the nicest people I’ve ever met were at this show.  I bumped into someone and expected a mean grunt, I was surprised with “Hey man nice hair!”.

But, enough about my hair.

As the show began, Patrick Riley began his lovely and catchy riffs on the guitar and you could feel the taps of toes throughout. Then came singer Alaina Moore, who belted out her vocals. It amazing to hear such vocal power come from a tiny girl, but she definitely didn’t hold back. Her emotional insights, playful lyrics, and occasional jokes, made Tennis’ performance one of the most enjoyable moments I’ve had at a live show in awhile. As I exited the building, I could tell that I wasn’t the only one with that consensus. It was truly an amazing night of music. Great show Tennis… Great show!
