It’s a man’s world. Or, rather, a pretty boy’s world. When discussing this editorial, Juan Vega (stylist) and Ashlynn Danielsen (photographer) decided to create a character. A bratty, glossy, beautiful boy wrapped in a silk bow. “La Petite Princesse” walks a very crooked line between pretty girl bubblegum sweetness and bitter impudence. Ashlynn has had a long lived desire to blur the gender binary through creating stunning editorials which showcase a rarely seen model in today’s fashion world: one which is simultaneously masculine and feminine. Using a bit of subtlety which is not often seen in her work, Ashlynn’s desire is to create a fresh and interesting character starring in a loosely formed fashion narrative. Nic Alexander (model) gave a stellar performance as the star of the editorial. Juan and Ashlynn will be teaming up again in the near future to bring more quirky editorials and tales of gender benders.
