Panties can be broken down into pretty specific categories. But undergarments that cross categories, like “comfort and sensuality,” are hardly considered rarities. What makes MARIEYAT‘s designs notable is the subtle exposures of skin that undies usually cover: the flesh cushioning a hard hip, cheeks plumped beyond a hem. There’s nothing overtly sexual about it. It’s like today’s bared ankle, hinting at sexuality without avowal.
Marie Yat told Dazed: “In terms of research, I have been exploring women in Chinese erotic art and images of women that show the truth about our bodies – like stretch marks, scars and bruises, which I find intriguing and beautiful.” Our seeming aberrations are proceeding towards common acceptance and the appeal of untouched photographs is growing. But we’ve yet to see what new world the morning will bring.
The brand also recognizes gender fluidity. Though the models have female forms, the underwear remains accessible to any.
