Far from the intent to hypersexualize the naked body, Ren Hang captures his friends as sculptural models bent on being nothing but their natural selves. They do, he shoots. And the poses arranged are riveting, showing us what the body is and what it can do, regardless of gender. It would be frustrating to be arrested when shooting outdoors or to have shows cancelled by the Chinese government but the Beijing-based artist is used to it and, thankfully, keeps shooting.
