When two lovers become entwined, the world collapses around them. Listening to Girlyboi’s EP produces that effect. You’re transported elsewhere by raw sound and vocals that are all molasses-like. Girlyboi is comprised of Carly Russ and Joseph Matick, a real couple clouded by romanticism who ran off to Europe and recorded their first EP, Actual Woman. They’re also models who choose to forget the glamour and pop, to make music that translates an honesty that can only be gotten when a veil is forgone. Hence, the folksiness. Having a folksy aspect retains that oral tradition of communicating something, like ideas of unfolding, of realness, of awareness, and of young, sensual love.
