Serving as a follow up to the band’s debut, Strange Heaven (2012), Mrs Magician has a touch a psychedelic punk and harmonic pop soul and a guitar grind that definitely a more matured sound in the new record ‘Bermuda’ out today on Swami Records.  Hailing from San Diego, the unmistakable West Coast punk influence and sound along with producer John Reis (Drive Like Jehu, Rocket From The Crypt, Hot Snakes) helps to shape the bands rigid tones matched with Jacob Turnbloom’s vocal approach leaving you smacked in the face and liking it. This album is definitely more structurally all over the map in a good way.  Compared to their 2012 debut album Strange Heaven, the subtext on Bermuda boasts a familiar echo of self deprecating humor that was heavily present on the bands previous albums, but focusing less on inner personal relationships. Bermuda steps the bands talent and growth up though in a big way, and that’s what it’s all about isn’t it, growing, evolving, leaving your audience and listener in a perpetual state of mystery and wonder on what you’ll do next and that it’s all worth the wait – Mrs. Magician does just that.
