A couple of days ago I was hanging out with my buddy Rhombi Survivor. True to fashion to old camera clubs from the 50’s, we decided to shoot the same model in our respective styles within the same location. Enter Gypsy who was kind enough to open her apartment for us to shoot.
To our surprise, her apartment was a goldmine. It had a really unique mix of taxidermy, old dolls and funny/creepy stuff. Gypsy, who told me she’s a bit of a hoarder, shared a couple of stories on how she moved to Dallas from Kansas to pursue her passion as a tattoo artist and also as sideshow clown. She told us that her biggest collection is of dolls and shared a little insight into how she started collecting. “My biggest collection is dolls. My mom would take me on a picnic in the graveyard every year for Easter and give me a new doll. I’ve been obsessed with them ever since. That collection turned into a clown collection over time. Ronald (McDonald) is my favorite. I have a lot of Ronald McDonald dolls. He’s handsome. Most of the taxidermy and religious art is my boyfriends, we love to hoard. Show us a pile of shit and we will dig out a gem. I’m a homebody so I like having dolls and dead things to chill with.”
