It was a new venture for the people of San Antonio, it was a new venture for Scoremore. Bringing Travis Scott back to his school town, the official comeback of grammy nominated rapper Jeezy and the energy of Rae Sremmurd to a city that usually must travel to neighbor city Austin for the sick lineups. It was a risk well taken, the festival outshined Scoremore’s other well-stablished summer festival JMBLYA. Not only did attendance exceeded anything we’ve seen them do, but the location packed endless amounts of chill locations where fans could rest and enjoy a good corn cob. Hosted on the grounds of the Lone Star Brewery, Mala Luna had a nostalgic vibe perfect for the spooky Halloween weekend.
At sundown, the stage lit up the entire arena and with the help of some spooky purple lights running across the tree lines it all felt so nocturnal. It was a witchy setup ideal for Travis Scott’s return to his school town. During his set, the Houston Native mentioned that he attended UTSA and spend many nights partying it up with locals. After taking his pit rage all over the world and it was time to finally make it back to the town that saw him grow. Like coming back home and visiting your crazy neighbors that always showed you a good time. The neighbors that could relate to you and San Antonio definitely related to him this time around.
The second day was packed with heavy hitters, Kehlani mesmerized the crowd with a sickening all black outfit, G Easy came out as the Joker with a raspy voice and a pair of pants that seemed to be sliding down every time he jumped, the commitment to his outfit was real tho. Slim and Swae Lee came out wearing a giant pink fur coat and a racetrack leader jacket during Travis Set to hump everything on stage. Proving they have the potential to be the best backup dancers in the land.
Unlike JMBLYA, Mala Luna crossed the genre exclusively boundaries by bringing Kaskade and Steve Aoki into the lineup, mixing House and Trap into the weekend’s vibes. Both artists are legacies in the EDM industry and their sets could not be better planned. Kaskade always hits a special spot for me tho, if you are an old school fan you know that his productions are captivating and his melodies as memorable as House Music can get. So a tear or two might have exited my eyeball orifices.
During our trip not only did we fell in love with the fest but with the city itself, its people and its amazing late night food trucks. We must have eaten at least 6 elotes each day. San Antonio knows a good time so make sure you take a trip down the river walk one of these days.
