PHOTOGRAPHY AND WORDS BY MONA CORDES
The Growlers, the LA-based band, signed with Burger Records smashed the right vibes out of people’s hearts.
It was a beautiful atmosphere overall, not any heavy mosh pitting or people getting hurt. Only one near to the end but was a one where people just danced together. The gig was a smart one – they were one for nearly 2 hours – if you weren’t tired all safe but I was struggling the last 1/4 as I have been shooting all day. Lights made the guys shine in beautiful tones of reds, orange, some purples – some pictures attached.
When it got to the end of their set, I saw people leaving with happy faces. They are a band lets me Allah-Las that create a real soft atmosphere playing their surfy/ romantic songs, floating along the lines of smart guitar + bar with their voices. To say though is that I find the venue a bit too big for such band if you are right at the back you don’t get the atmosphere as much. When you saw them last and the first time in Germany in Hanover they played such small venue which suited them better. But I guess bands grow and fit to go with the flow which is only positive really – for them mostly!
Happy I got to shoot them but I was not allowed to use flash so was a bit of a challenge – pictures show the floaty vibes but not the commercial photo look – sorry!
