Photographer, Colette Pomerleau and Designer Jeakyong Sim teamed up to bring us a glimpse of his new collection.
Jeakyong, is a young fashion designer based in Berlin, trained in both Royal Academy of fine arts Antwerp and Esmod Berlin. His starting points root in personal anecdotes, with a sense of autobiographical approach to each topics. Practicing both womenswear and menswear, storytelling oriented garments inhabit a strain of head-turning provocation that is nonetheless deftly controlled by juxtaposed color choices and texture play. Jeakyong challenges the aesthetic of day and evening wear by introducing manipulated materials that are uncommon in this segment of fashion. His pattern development followed a method of improvisation and experimentation. Leading to result, which is surprising yet technically refined. Despite having a very personal starting point he managed to develop are levant work re-imagining what an elegant wardrobe could look like today.
“You only live twice’ is an interpretation of womanhood of my mother. Often times, one’s mother is the first female figure you interact with. In my case, the experience established a default idea for defining what it is to be a woman and adopt the concept of femininity. She lived through challenging periods, yet she never let the hardship defeat her pride. Her choices brought her to a place of competence. It takes strength to wear your pain as a badge of pride and utilize it as source of energy to continue building life.”
