18-year-old singer/songwriter Baker Grace has attacked 2019 with rare gusto. She’s set to release her Girl, I Know EP next month; a concept body of work whose five songs correspond to the five days of the working week, each embodying a distinct mindset and mood. This is a song that really puts Grace’s range on display. “Illest” employs a hip-hop influenced beat and its lyrics carry Grace’s vocal swagger as she espouses not getting lost in the minutiae of other people’s opinions.
“‘llest’ is about overcoming the fear of failure and the judgment of others. I wrote this song at a time where I didn’t know if I was good enough to make it. It’s easy to play the victim role and think the world is against you when a lot of times it’s you betting against yourself. ‘Illest’ promotes the confidence and self-love we all desperately need.” Grace mentions about this project.
