Ireland’s future-pop auteur Æ Mak announces their new EP, Class Exercises, out 3/26 via her own label Spacer Records. A new sound for Æ Mak, the EP brings her skills as a producer to the forefront. To herald the EP, she releases the lead single and video “Jamie,” inspired in more ways than one by a famous musician who shares that name.
A concise, three-track release which soundtracks the lost house parties of 2020-2021, Class Exercises sees Æ Mak adding a daring sense of hedonism to her expansive sound whilst pushing her own work as a producer to the front. She made the EP in a creative burst, inspired by a series of production classes, hence the file folders in the artwork: lessons –> learned.
Aoife McCann, better known as Æ Mak, finds freedom and beauty beneath the vast umbrella known as pop music. Her voice, channeled through beautiful and bizarre timbres, fluctuates to suit her varied sound, which ranges from bouncy, thumping electro to industrial electronic. As a performer, she’s opened for Tune-Yards, Django Django, and Warpaint. Her work found fans at NPR (2020 Artist to Watch), Paste, and KEXP, and across the pond it attracted the attention of BBC Radio 6, Radio X, Nialler, and The Line of Best Fit. With Class Exercises, Æ Mak sets off in a new direction, eager to explore her newfound power.
