During her four years at the college, Celone received merit-based scholarships, a scholarship to the first Figurative Arts Convention and Expo in Miami, FL, admission to the New York Academy of Art Master Class taught by Vincent Desiderio in NYC, and the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship
from the University of New Haven in 2018. In the Spring of 2018, Celone studied abroad for a full semester in Prato, Italy. She has exhibited in venues including the Consorzio Santa Trinita Gallery in Prato, Italy; Square Foot Theater and Tavern, CT; Academic Artists Association, CT; Firehouse Gallery,
CT; Chauncey Stillman Gallery, CT; Hygienic Art Gallery, CT; Essex Art Association, CT; Florence Griswold Museum, CT; Greenpoint Gallery, NY; Vestige Concept Gallery, PA, and in various online exhibitions. Celone completed a residency at the Vermont Studio Center in the Winter of 2019 and looks forward to attending the Sarasvati Residency Space in 2022. She is currently working as an artist model at the Silvermine Arts Center and independently for artists in New England.
Cynthia’s work explores the human gaze, spiritual enlightenment, time, and nature, while exhibiting curiosity towards the unknown dreamscapes of our subconscious. Through acrylic and oil paint, she is able to bring
each painting to life with bright, saturated colors layered like stripes. Overtime, she’s acquired a deeper understanding of the figure’s purpose within a picture plane. Breaking pre-existing notions of the ‘gaze’, the figures in her work aren’t concerned with the viewers opinion, they’re simply occupying space just like we are. In some cases, one might wonder who is viewing who. There’s a juxtaposition between the abstract and figurative to contrast our relationship to the spiritual vs. physical multidimensionality of existence. She wants to explore the desire to dive into the hidden depths of consciousness while simultaneously showing appreciation to our natural surroundings. Ecosexuality should be encouraged and respected in society to further enhance the ties between ourselves and nature.
