EXCLUSIVE SHOOT AND FASHION WEEK PRESENTATION FOR ‘AMEHL’

Today we got the exclusive photos from the Amehl presentation for fashion week which was also a sci-fi film shoot only on NAKID!

They shot a film titled ‘Creature From The Ruby Forest Strikes Back II’. It was hosted by the Locker Room gallery, this was a stunning collection that indulged in dreamy intergalactic glamour with underlying political and philosophical theory.  If you know the brand then you already know that their shows are conceptual and fun with awesome clothes.

Amanda Mehl, an artist who founded Amehl 6 years ago with the vision to combine art and creative community with clothes and accessories that are cool af, flattering and fun to wear. The brand incorporates unconventional materials, artistic media content, films, and performances. This will be my 10th collection and 8th show during NYFW. Amehl shows are known for their ingenuity and include collections shown in a school bus, flower shop, hardware storejewelry arcade, and more.

This show is about the meta concept of the “making of” productions and exposing the underside of fashion. It will bust the fashion show fantasy similar to the way the French New Wave broke the Hollywood fantasy by revealing in its films that this is a film set. In this show some of the models will be playing actors who will be playing aliens, nodding at Baudrillard’s ideas about simulacre and hyperrealism. The backstage team will be part of the show too, with the production assistants, sound/camera people, and beauty team all wearing Amehl. Makeup stations, wardrobe racks, light stands, and all the production elements will be exposed to the audience. You will be witnessing an actual film shoot. The film will be released in March.

This show will take place at The Locker Room, a femme-owned creative house that comprises an art collective, a recording studio, and a gallery based in Brooklyn, New York. Established in the summer of 2020, it has become a hub for New York creatives during the pandemic and the collective voice of this community is now a cultural influencer, appearing in publications around the world, on TV, and across billboards. Time Out Magazine listed the Locker Room as the “Best Gallery in New York City”.

This month I’m one of nine female artists who will be participating in the second annual “Lockdown at the Locker Room” artist residency hosted by the Locker Room. The artists, who include three painters, a photographer, a horror filmmaker, and a three person band, will share the gallery-turned-studio space for the month of February, with an exhibition of the work during Women’s History Month in March. Being in close quarters, the artists are encouraged to exchange ideas and methods and to explore what art and community mean in a post-isolation world.

If you love this visual story then show them some love, this is just a glimpse of the amazing stuff they have created – head over to their Instagram below to check out more from this awesome artist and support their creativity and your daily inspiration by following them!
