Tongeren, Limburg, Belgium-based model Ifa Brand shot this amazing self-portrait series for today’s exclusive NAKID feature editorial titled, ‘80’s Renegade‘.
Ifa Brand is a Playboy model turned self-portraitist, photographer and author from Belgium. Her move from model to photographer and self-portraitist was prompted by her growing frustrations with the modeling world, and the desire to seize artistic control of her own image. Inspired by pioneers of fetish style, such as Charles Guyette and Gene Bilbrew, and 1950s’ pin-ups, Bettie Page and Jayne Mansfield, she has created her own distinctive fusion of old-school glamour and fetish art. From the beginning, she chose to work exclusively with Polaroid film– a medium whose graininess and technical limitations she exploits. The result is a series of atmospheric portraits that convey her personal explorations of sensuality and eroticism.
Brand’s Polaroids have been exhibited internationally in cities such as London & Paris and have been published internationally in magazines such as Playboy, many Polaroid themed publications, newspapers and more. Her first coffee table photobook ‘Ifa Brand – Boudoir’, published by CircaPress (UK) was released at the end of 2021 and is sold worldwide through Amazon and specialized dealers. This year Brand is focusing on a series inspired by 80’s Glamrock, as a special photo project. The series she is presenting here, ‘80’s Renegade’, is the first full series of this project, never published online before.
