Photographer Liam Boath and signer, and songwriter from Glasgow, Beau, teamed up for today’s exclusive NAKID feature editorial titled, ‘Il Fait Beau‘.

Liam wrote this dialogue that accompanies his editorial outlining how the two creatives came together to shoot this new story!

“This is my first shoot since my top surgery”, Beau mentions.  “Your scars have healed up nicely”, I add.  Beau said that he had to go for a second operation because of complications with having bound his chest too much before hand.  As someone who chases, almost obsessively, real people with real bodies it was empowering to have Beau in-front of my camera.

“I feel as a gay creative I owe so much of how I can live my life today with such freedom and acceptance is down to the struggle and fight the trans community fought for me (read: us)”, I tell Beau.

“As we discuss Marsha P Johnson, and stonewall. A dream to have in studio, Beaus poise and grace translates directly onto the page. Today’s stylist and studio assist is Ian.  A 19 year old whose lack of punctuality is forgiven only because of his sheer talent with the camera (and ability to buy his way back into everyone on sets good books with coffee and cake).”

Ian picks out a beautiful long tulle skirt and pairs with blue braces, “This will allow for your scars to be on show” he says. And then changes it up with a cyber punk dungaree/ goggles vibe. “I like the cyberpunk, machine gun Kelly vibe” he says.

“The concept for todays series, is empowerment, masculinity and self love. I believe Trans representation is so important in todays media, with Sam Smith and Kim Petra’s flagship being the alter to which I turn for this, along with the divine Ethel Cain. The world we live in is changing, rapidly and for the better. How we define and understand masculinity is a long way from the binary representation I grew up with only 10 years ago. We might not be throwing bricks at stonewall any more, or being turfed out of bars, (at least, not in Britain, homosexuality itself still illegal in over 60 counties in the world) but may the humble photos I take in my studio (read: living room) be the bricks to be thrown into the still prevalent injustice and discrimination the trans community face today.”

Real people. With real bodies. And real lived experiences..
