THE WORLD OF BOOKSCAPES – GUY LARAMÉE {SCULPTURE}

Montreal-based artist Guy Laramée creates amazing landscape sculptures of mountains, caves and ancient ruins all carved out of books.  30 years of practice has turned an idea into a career and ingenious sculptures.  Laramée has created varied and numerous disciplines within the artistic world, not just sculpting but theater writing and directing, contemporary music composition, musical instrument design and building, singing, video, scenography, installation, painting, and literature as well.  It hasn’t gone unnoticed either, far exceeding his niche with more than 30 arts grants and the Canadaian Council’s Joseph S. Stauffer award for musical composition, he has dominated so many categories of art that it’s hard to keep up.  The United States, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, and Latin America are just some of the dominions his work has been housed and showcased around the world.  His bookscapes are unlike anything we have ever seen though, and we wanted to showcase that out of his many accomplished mediums.  In the age of kindle and iBooks on your iPad, Laramée has found a way to transition old publications into new and exciting works of art and inspiration.  The level of time and concentration that goes into just one of these sculptures is mind-bending and at the very least intimidating that he has that kind of patience, but that is really what it is all about isn’t it, patience.  The patience to wait, create, perfect, and accomplish something amazing that is an expression of yourself.  Here are some of our favorite pieces of his, enjoy!
