Anastasiya Lazurenko, is an analogue photographer born in Lugansk, Ukraine.
” I started with digital and naturally evolved to film. It was the transformation that provided me with the means of expression I needed. I didn’t analysis it much ~ I went through this evolution and migrated to a new dimension that film provided. Film is more connective and visceral. Also, I like slow production that film provides and I miss it in art. Modern world pushes us to churn out work at the speed of its progress. Eventually , it kills the very soul of creativity. I perceive the art of photography as spiritual practice, taking art as mystical yoga. I use only film cameras to bring to the image the direct unique energy flow. I started my way with 35mm cameras and ended with large format cameras as eight by ten. As my self-consciousness and energy flow grow up I was lack of the size of the negative or positive of 35mm and 120mm, they were not enough for the energy I wanted to bring to the picture. Film is live and unique for me each time, digital matrix is the same all the time for all the people who use it. I want my pictures to breathe, to work them concealed, to make people change imperceptibly to the endless absolute.”
