Photographer Kyriakina Valavanis has the new and creative editorial today’s exclusive NAKID feature titled, ‘Each Of Us Is A Rosebud (Waiting To Be Picked)‘. My surreal self-portraits spin beauty and chaos into an undenable web. They are the wedge between realities. At first glance, you believe what you see, but upon further inspection you start to feel weird, that something isn’t right, and maybe it isn’t, because what you saw at first felt so real and suddenly everything you thought you knew is pulled out from under you.
My photos are meant to dislodge people from their notion of reality. They are also a platform for myself to become what I feel was robbed from me at birth – my true identities. I was introduced to photography at the age of 19, when I started shooting exclusively on film. A year later I was gifted my first DSLR, which opened up a whole new spectrum of photography for me. Digital photography offered a flexibility that with film was too expensive to achieve. I studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where I learned how to use photoshop. I now live and work in Chicago.
