Photographer Hasan Belal and model Dina teamed up for today’s exclusive NAKID feature editorial titled, ‘Crude‘.

Hasan is a Syrian photojournalist who is bored with the dark life and sad stories of war in his work. From time to time he runs away to take some beauty shots that tell him he is alive and has a feeling and urge he can’t deny. He decided to take shots called “Crude” for this exclusive story that show body imperfection and how sexy art and the world of nudity is from the perspective of a photojournalist who wants to get into minimalist fashion photography. He wanted to express how upset heh is by the situation here in Syria and how they live an absolutely imperfect life, reflected in their photos to the extent of this crudeness; the photography to them is a means of communication, through which they understand and analyze daily scenes in Syria. In the art, they follow the visual anthropology approach which enables them to understand the identity of the place within which he resides, especially during ten years of war.

Hasan Ibrahim Belal, 28 years old, graduated from economics university in Syria. He has been working as photographer since 2010, with special interest in photojournalism and visual anthropology. He worked with many local and international agencies and NGOs in Syria, UNICEF – ICRC – Caritas -NRC and produced stories about the life after war. He got a grant with Thompson Reuters with “Dar-Al Mosawer” in Beirut for training about photojournalism with a related exhibition.
