Photographer Kacper & Justyna and model Kate Ri teamed up for today’s exclusive NAKID feature editorial titled, ‘Flow‘.
Kacper & Justyna have always been admirers of photography, particularly nude art, but only recently seriously got involved in creating it. They did their first shoot with a model in July 2020 and afterwards got confident enough to invite a favorite model to of theirs out to create a new series, the amazing Kate Ri. And though they say “never meet your heroes”, this time it went even better than expected – they not only did two very satisfying photoshoots together, but started hanging out, quickly becoming friends. Fast forward, and 4 months later the three of them are enjoying vacation on Madeira together – a couple expecting a baby and their friend. Or: a photographer, his assistant and a model.
At one of the places they had a swimming pool at our disposal – in theory it wasn’t exclusive, but due to the pandemic, all the neighboring houses were empty. However, it certainly wasn’t suitable for swimming – even though Madeira is known as the island of “eternal spring”, water in February was still freezing cold. But hey, great art demands sacrifices, so they decided to do a shoot in the water. Temperature wasn’t the only thing that made it one of the hardest ones they’ve ever did (also for Kate, who’s had literally hundreds in her career). It was also the first time any of them have shot in the water, so it demanded figuring out both the technical aspects (sealing the camera) and artistic ones (what poses will look interesting in this environment?). Eventually they did 2 shoots in the pool, the first one had turned out to be a warm-up (but nothing warm about it). They made many mistakes, including picking the wrong lens (water gives its own lensing effect, far stronger than they say they anticipated) and not making sure they will be able to see what the camera sees. Ultimately, the first shoot turned out to be unusable but prepared them for the proper one. And this time it not only did work despite all the obstacles but it even surpassed their expectations. It was as if at some point of the shoot they finally found their flow.
